Torus Isolation Transformers

This is the core of a rack mount RM20. Its a smaller unit compared to a RM40,60 or 100, but massive in size. 2 layers of vibration control. All copper wiring. Hubbell 5362 outlets. Series mode and MOV surge protection.

If someone wants me to personally receive the unit and apply contact enhancement to all the termination point, I can do as such.

Per below, this unit has effectively run AR Ref 160 Monoblocks and a pair of REL T32 subs. All from one unit.

Where Torus Isolation Transformers Matter

Amplifiers and Subs: Every project where I applied a Torus isolation transformer to amplifiers and subwoofers, I am astounded with the resultant positive affect. I have never heard a negative attribute with amps and subs.

Across every system I have heard there is an immediate clean. Far from a Black sound. Just clean. The bass is always tighter, more articulate. The separation of instruments is more distinct and the soundstage reached up and out. It just sounds more alive and real. Closer to like you are there.

Front End: I know every type of filter has an affect. We all hear them. And most people find they need a filter to bring out the most in their equipment, particularly the front end. All filter have an affect on the front end and some are better than others.

A Torus isolation transformer is a type of filter too. Its really good with RF. Its excellent with DC. Its not a brick wall so its clean but not obtrusive You will hear it. Its very good and never perceived as a negative. If you compared it direct to the wall, you would use the Torus.

My personal view is that all premium power supply to a high end audio systems should have a Torus. They just work. Torus is better than anything other filter I have experienced on amps and subs. Its the same category as any Shunyata, AQ, Isotech, Inakustik, you name it esoteric builder, on the front end.

I advocate for a large wall mount. Get all that filtration out of the room. Its real estate. Apply it globally. It always works well without negative perceptions.

Could a different brand filter be preferred over a Torus when your considering front end equipment, sure. Why not. But the impact Torus has on amplifiers is astounding. A Torus in my mind is a necessity in any quality audio system to achieve the highest performance level. Just put it to everything, and run a couple circuits from a non filtered premium panel in parallel. Choose which you like best. But foundationally, you want a Tours applied globally to use as a option.

I provide what no other dealer of Torus I know provides. I have experience and licenses to design a premium electrical supply to support any type of electrical installation. I know everything about how best to integrate a Torus into an electrical system. You have to power a Torus correctly. Torus in particular as a filter want as best a power as possible to pass through the maximum amount of current it can. All filters want this, bar non. They will all work better if you feed them properly. No filter of any kind is a fix for a poor electrical feed to it. Feed then right and they will respond. Torus in particular.

Amps I have heard a Torus power:

  • AR Ref 160 Monoblocks. And REL T32 subs (2). I was amazed a RM20 from a #10 romex I installed and panel I did some work on handled it so well. Amazing result. By far the best with both the amps and subs feed from it. I would prefer a WM40 in the basement below with a dedicated feed for the sub, dedicated for the amps, dedicated for the front end. I would leave a wall power and compare to the Everest there. Select the best topology for that system.

  • Dartzeel NHB108 Very positive affect

  • Dartzeel 468 monos Very positive affect

  • Gryphon Diablo very positive. Owner sold the AQ5000 and kept the RM20 to feed the entire system.

  • Kress KSA250 Amazing affect. Its just no comparison. Sooo much better all around. Its hard to put is all in words, but the owner took it right there and now has a second RM20 applied to the subs and front end.

  • SET 45 tubes and horns Amazing affect. Much more controlled and all the hot edge take off. Yet the room was way more calm and the music more alive, full and natural, Stronger more articulate bass.

  • Mcintosh. Did not hear it but customer had wall power ran in parallel and plugs the entire system into the RM40BAL

  • Vanderstein and Naim. Very positive. Customer has parallel wall power and uses the WM40BAL exclusively for the entire media system.

  • Airtight 300B with all Sutherlund Loco vinyl and pre. Very good. Way more natural with air and space. The room was new and very hot and bright. Bad slap echo. I did not hear much change in the bass. But there was a definite calm in the room. It took an edge off and made the vinyl sound more real. The soundstage was more expanded and defined.

Kingrex has partnered with Torus Power to offer premium wall mount transformers coupled with our fully custom distribution panelboards. We have these transformers configured to a single output breaker and use that to power our fully custom all copper panelboard. Our panels are specifically designed, UL listed and labeled for 1 phase only. These transformer/panel packages are 100% NEC/CSA compliant for use in any residence in the US and Canada. We are the only company I know of capable of providing large frame transformers with a distribution panel containing AFCI circuit breakers. AFCI circuit breakers are a requirement on all outlets and lights in a residence. No other company I know of offers this.

Performance

For years a bug has sat in the back of my mind.  Some of the most well known audiophile and best sounding systems I have heard are fronted by premium wall mount transformers.  Almost every recording studio in the US and around the world have premium isolation transformers powering their equipment.  Why are all these businesses and people using these devices?  After months of research into NEC code, UL listing and installation guidelines I have launched a product line for the most discriminating audiophile.

What do I hear is a highly subjective conversation.  Lets just say I have listened to a variety of different power conditioners in my system.  They all alter the sonics.  Some for the good, others, not so much.  Almost never is the change universally for the better.  Yet large wall mount transformers are something I had not tried.  I had tried smaller Triplite and Topaz transformers.  They work to a degree.  The Triplite when powering my modem, router and switch seemed to give a level of clean.  My Topaz shut down mechanical noise from my CJ Premier amplifier.  But it did dull the dynamics a little.  But quieting the very loud hum in my room from the physical amplifier itself was a godsend, so it stayed in use.

Torus Wall Mount Transformers

Wall mount transformers are almost limitless in their power delivery. Think about what feeds your house. Its a step down transformer of nebulous quality feeding you and maybe 5 neighbors. That transformer is fed by another transformer, and another and maybe another.

Transformers are excellent at passing current. They are also excellent at blocking noise. Torus in particular are designed to block high frequency noise as well as provide a high level of surge protection. They are excellent quality and come pre configured with all code required primary and secondary protection. Torus transformers are one of the only filters that provide voltage stability between brown outs to 90 volts or over voltage above 130 volts. Your equipment will see 120 volts stable power.

The 4.5 kVA Torus I selected for my house is a whole new level of performance enhancement.  It stepped up everything in my system.  A very notable improvement in dynamics and bass authority is readily apparent.  The music is more alive.  And at the same time, it's less stressful. The room feels more calm.  There is noise that has been removed.  It's a noise you don’t really know is there is until it's gone.  Instruments are more nuanced.   There is greater tonal variation. The whole of the music feels like a layer of mud removed. With that noise removed, more space and ambience is heard around individual instruments.  The music no longer gels into a homogeneous blob.  All the parts are expressive and individual in their intent.  Each musician is more focused and heard. And oddly this makes the music easier to digest.  You sort of take it in as a whole, while very aware of the parts. I will never be without a wall mount transformer in my system.
